The following briefing from Daikin provides an overview of the change in legislation that allows for continued recognition of CE-assessed products placed on the GB market beyond the end of 2024 and how this will affect Daikin products.
In the coming years, existing Daikin products will retain the UKCA and CE marking however, new products will only display the CE marking.
Background
On leaving the EU, the government made transition arrangements within the law that certain products that met EU requirements, including CE marking, could be placed on the GB market until 31 December 2024.
The original intention of this legislation was that after 11pm on 31 December 2024 all products placed on the GB market would be UKCA marked, which would require conformity assessment by a UK Approved body.
Current legislation position
The government has now laid legislation to continue this recognition of goods that meet current EU requirements, including CE marking (Conformité Européene, or European Conformity marking), beyond 31 December 2024.
The legislation will apply indefinitely for a range of product regulations. This means that businesses will have the flexibility to use either the UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) or CE marking to sell products in Great Britain (GB).
The new legislation comes into effect from 1st October 2024.
Daikin position
Aligning with the new legislation, Daikin will:
For current products: Retain both the UKCA information (marking, DOC, energy label) and the CE information including labelling, and as such these products will retain the dual label while they remain on the GB market.
For new products: Maintain only the CE related information (marking, DOC, energy label).
This means that Daikin Products will exist in the UK market with CE marking as well as combined UKCA/CE marking.
